John D. Baker was born on February 8, 1952. He was raised in the small town of Stinesville, Indiana, located in Monroe County. John was raised in a strong Christian family. His parents were older when he was born, his mother was 43 and his father was 58. John was the youngest of 11 children. He spent many hours as a child listening to his father's quartet practice. It was there that he began to learn many of the great old gospel songs of the church.

When he reached his teenage years, he began to drift away from God, as many teens do. He experimented with drugs and alcohol and learned to sing country music. By the time he was 19, he was singing in bars and living a rough life. But thanks to his dear mother's unceasing prayers, on November 23, 1975 he rededicated his life to the Lord. He felt the call to minister less than a year later, and began to travel the country, ministering in song with the Baker Family Singers.

In 1981, John felt the call to begin preaching as well as singing. He traveled for 8 years as an evangelist. In 1989, as John was walking through a large flea market in Ohio, God spoke to him and he felt the call to begin an outdoor outreach ministry. The past ten years, John has performed at flea markets, street festivals, county fairs, biker rallies and even Wal-Mart parking lots.

His ability to relate to all ages and people from all walks of life is something that John prides himself on. He feels that this is a God-given gift and it is an integral part of his ministry. People feel drawn to his rich, clear voice. He sings many of the old gospel favorites that so many can relate to. Many say they listen to his music every day.

John has been selling his tapes for over 10 years now, and he has chosen to keep the price the same as when he started. He hopes that even those on lower and fixed incomes are able to enjoy his music. People of all ages enjoy his music.
